MAMIYA RZ WINDER

I was nervous about renting a motor winder for my RZ, but this one handled the film advance and mirror reset without a single hiccup. Six AAs gave me plenty of juice for a full day of shooting, and the sound it makes is oddly satisfying.

The motor advances the film smoothly, and I love how it automatically cocks the shutter and mirror with a consistent, mechanical sound. It’s a solid piece of gear that makes shooting much faster.

The mirror and shutter sequence is so much smoother now that I don’t have to crank by hand—the 6 AA batteries give it plenty of juice for a full day of shooting. It’s a bit bulky but once it’s on, I forget it’s there.
