Learn how folding tables and chairs improve on-set comfort for cast and crew. Practical tips for choosing rentable furniture for production and direction teams.
Quick answer
For a comfortable and efficient film set, choose folding tables and chairs that are easy to transport, quick to set up, and sturdy enough for daily use. The TABLE PLIABLE 2M X 1M and CHAISE PLIABLE from Matphoto are practical, rentable options for production and direction teams.
Why portable furniture matters on set
A film set is a fast-moving environment where cast and crew need functional spaces for breaks, meetings, and makeup. Portable tables and chairs provide a dedicated area without permanent installation, and they can be moved between locations as needed.
Folding furniture is especially useful for rental and production teams because it stores flat, transports easily, and sets up in minutes. The trade-off is that lightweight models may feel less sturdy than permanent furniture, so choosing the right size and weight capacity is important.
What to look for in on-set furniture
When selecting tables and chairs for a set, consider the surface area, weight, and ease of folding. A 2m x 1m table offers enough space for scripts, laptops, or craft services, while a compact folding chair provides individual seating that can be stacked or stored.
Rentable options like those tagged for PROD, REGIE, and rental use are designed for repeated handling and quick turnover. Check that the furniture is clean, free of damage, and that the folding mechanisms work smoothly before each use.
How to set up portable tables and chairs on a film set
- Assess your space and needs: Measure the available area and decide how many seats and tables you need. A 2m x 1m table seats about 4–6 people comfortably. Choose folding chairs that match the table height (standard seat height is around 45 cm). Common mistake: ordering too few or too many items. Always confirm headcount and layout beforehand.
- Inspect and test the furniture: Before the shoot, check each table and chair for stability, clean surfaces, and smooth folding mechanisms. Unfold and refold each item to ensure no parts are stuck or damaged. Common mistake: assuming all items are in working condition. A quick inspection saves time on set.
- Set up in a logical layout: Place tables in a central, accessible location away from heavy foot traffic or equipment cables. Arrange chairs around the table with enough space for people to sit and stand. Use the folding legs to level on uneven ground if needed. Common mistake: blocking walkways or tripping hazards. Keep pathways clear and tables away from high-traffic zones.
- Secure and label for rental return: If the furniture is rented, keep track of the inventory. Use a checklist to record which items were used and note any damage. Fold and pack items carefully after the shoot to avoid loss or breakage. Common mistake: losing small parts or mixing up rented items. Label each piece with a sticker or marker before the shoot.
