Renting a Nespresso Machine: What to Check

Before you rent a Nespresso machine for your studio or set, know what to inspect and ask. This guide covers water tank, capsule compatibility, and rental terms.
Quick answer
When renting a Nespresso machine, check the water tank capacity, capsule compatibility, cleaning kit availability, and rental terms—especially if it's a rental-tagged listing like the one at Matphoto.
Why rental terms matter for a coffee machine
A Nespresso machine listed under a rental tag may have different conditions than a standard purchase. Matphoto's listing clearly identifies it as a rental, so you must review the store's rental terms before ordering. This includes duration, deposit, and what happens if the machine needs servicing during your rental period.
Water tank and drip tray condition
The water tank and drip tray are the parts most likely to show wear. Before you pick up the machine, ask if the tank is free of cracks and if the drip tray grid is intact. A damaged tank can leak, and a missing grid makes cleanup harder on set.
Capsule compatibility and included accessories
Nespresso machines use either Original or Vertuo capsules. Confirm which type the rented machine accepts so you bring the right pods. Also check if a sample capsule or a cleaning tool is included—some rentals provide a starter pack, others do not.
What to check before you rent
- Water tank capacity: Ask the rental provider the tank size (liters). A small tank means more refills during a long shoot day.
- Capsule type: Confirm whether the machine uses Original or Vertuo capsules. Bring your own pods accordingly. If unsure, ask for a sample capsule to test on pickup.
- Cleaning and descaling: Check if the rental includes a cleaning kit or if you need to return the machine descaled. Some rentals charge extra if the machine is returned dirty. Ask about descaling policy before you sign.
- Rental duration and deposit: Review the rental period, late fees, and deposit amount. Matphoto's rental tag means these terms are separate from standard listings. Get the terms in writing.
